Tamron Zooms for Sony

Kenneth Sporsheim February 22, 2022

I went from DSLR to mirrorless in 2019. Then I felt safe to do the switch and take a step into the future. The choice of weapons was Sony and the A7III. As a hybrid shooter on both photo and video, mirrorless is a no-brainer in my opinion.

And since Im a Focus Nordic ambassador, I get access to all their good stuff when it comes to lenses. The first one was the amazing 28-75mm F/2.8. That lens has been with me on 99% of all work I’ve done since the switch. I have now changed that one to the new 28-75mm F/2.8 G2 version, and that is even better and sharper. And the AF works like a charm for my kind of shooting.

Most people know me for my concert photography, but I do so much more. I also do a lot of events, weddings and studio work too. The wedding picture above is taken with the 28-75mm.

The 28-75mm is so versatile to use in the studio when it comes to portraits. Both these pictures are taken with that lens. If you are stepping into the Sony mirrorless world, the 28-75 is the first lens I will recommend you to get.

But sometimes you need more then just a 28-75mm (normal zoom), that’s why I pair my 28-75mm with the 70-180mm (telezoom) and the 17-28mm (wide-angle zoom). That is a “deadly trio” of lenses, that gives you most options when it comes to both photo and video. The picture of Nightwish above is taken with the 70-180mm. If you wanna see the whole serie, click HERE.

The 17-28mm often helps me out when I do journalistic photography. Here from the Radio Rock studio. Both that picture and the concert photo below are taken with the 17-28mm F/2.8

The new thing with the G2 upgrades of Tamron for Sony E, is not only custom buttons, but also a USB-C button, that allows you to customize the lens to even more suit your needs. That combined with even faster AF and better sharpness, Tamron is the one to watch for Sony shooters. And another good thing with the 17-28, 28-75 and 70-180 trio, is that the filter size is the same. So you only need one kit of filters to use on all 3 lenses.

As you know, the world has been struggling with a Pandemic the last 2 years, so I haven’t been shooting as normal. But things look good for the future now.

The reason I mention that, is that I also have the new Tamron 150-500mm in my kit now. I use extreme tele on bigger festivals when we must shoot from the sound table (pretty common with bigger artists). But I hope to have an article for that one when the festivals starting in the summer (here’s hoping).

The new and amazing 35-150mm F/2-2.8 is also a part of my kit in the future. And deeper article on that will also come in near future. So keep on shooting and stay focused.

If you have any questions around Tamron and the different lenses, just make contact HERE.

I always say, that cameras are consumer goods and lenses are an investment!!
